Preparing Hardware Wallets for an On-Site Verification Visit
28 May 2025
An on-site verification visit should confirm what you already know about your holdings. Preparation reduces the time spent troubleshooting device issues and keeps the focus on documentation.
Charge and test each device
Hardware wallets with depleted batteries may fail to power on or display balances slowly. Charge every device included in the engagement at least twenty-four hours before the visit. Power each one on independently to confirm the screen responds and the PIN entry works.
If a device has not been used in over a year, test it a few days early. Firmware prompts or seed phrase recovery needs are better handled before the associate arrives.
Gather device inventory details
Our pre-visit questionnaire asks for model names, approximate purchase dates, and the asset types held on each device. Accurate inventory helps the associate allocate time and prepare the correct checklist format. Multisig wallets require additional fields: number of required signers, which keys you hold, and whether all signers will be present.
Clear a workspace
The associate needs a table, adequate lighting, and privacy to review balance screens. You will power on devices yourself; the associate observes and records. Ensure no other person in the room photographs screens without your authorisation.
What we will not ask you to do
We do not request USB connections between your devices and our equipment. We do not ask for seed phrases or private keys. We do not install software on your devices. If any step of your routine normally requires a network connection, tell us in the questionnaire so we can document the limitation rather than compromising your air gap.
After the visit
Expect the signed reserve report within five business days. Review it promptly and contact us if any figure does not match what you displayed during the visit. Corrections based on visit checklists are issued at no charge when requested within ten business days of delivery.
